Credit cards 'help to pay for winter breaks'

Many people in the UK are planning to use their credit cards to pay for part of their holidays abroad this winter, according to a new study.

Abbey's research found that 15 million Britons are set to spend a total of £8 billion on breaks in the coming months, with the average consumer spending £550 per person on the trips.

It was also revealed that people will pay for over a third of their holidays using plastic cards.

Callum Gibson, head of Abbey Credit Cards, said: "If you are heading abroad this winter then it's important to consider how you can make your money work harder.

"Choosing a fee free credit card, such as the Abbey Zero card, means that you won't have to worry about foreign exchange fees eating into your holiday spending money."

Previous research by Abbey found that 22 per cent of credit card holders are planning to get a zero per cent credit card over the next year.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18796612-ADNFCR
